“Wines made from attic-dried fruit, like the Veneto’s Amarone, reward the drinker not only with their astonishing range and repertoire of aromas, flavours and allusions when young, but also with their ability to modulate, age, charm and sometimes dazzle with age, too. This sure-handed Amarone from the 2012 vintage is still deep in colour with little sign of bricking. The aromas are now mellow and harmonious, well-rounded, combining a fresh-fruited classicism with more exotic hints of grape skins and marc, of toffee, of raisins and of tar (though these are no more than hints). On the palate, the wine is smooth, pure, intense and gratifying, with all of the allusions apparent in the aroma plus a few more for luck, dark chocolate included. Both tannins and acidity are now soft, mellow and affable, making this generous yet well-proportioned wine an enticing sipping prospect”.
